a couple of weeks ago one of my girlies sadly died, leaving me with 2. They have been with me for just over a year. I would like to get two more chickens to add to my small flock but am really worried about introductions. I only have the one eglu but can fence off half my garden for the new girls, but they will have to sleep together from day one. I was thinking of putting the new girls on the other side of the wire so they can all see eachother, then letting them fed together before bedtime, then putting them all together at bedtime - will this work?? i am scared of doing the wrong thing.

It was my top chuck who died, my remaining two seem quite placid.

I have one eglu, do you think there is enough space for four in one eglu? I do have an extended run and they free range alot so i am just concerned about the size of the actual house.

thanks for any help.

I have no experience of the introductions, but the way our two snuggle up at night there would be room for plenty more in the eglu at night! :D

Shame we don't have more room in the garden :wall:

It sound like a good plan. There will be more than enough room for 4 hens. I just merged 2 flocks together that were living in two eglus and they all chose to sleep in one eglu at night  . That was 7 in 1 eglu! and there was still room  . They are all in a cube now though.
