Chook n Boo Mum
I've just discovered my lovely little Sony digital camera resting at the bottom of a bucket of dirty water - not intentionally put there I'm sure, but now I need to know the chances of it surviving such an accident. I've shaken all the excess water I can out of it, and removed the battery & memory card & put the whole thing into the airing cupboard in the hopes it might just dry out & live to tell the tale. Would I be better getting the hairdryer on a cool setting on it? DH is not going to be impressed when I confess to finding it, especially if it's going to be an insurance claim! jlo
I hope I am wrong but I am pretty sure that the answer is, "probably!" I killed my mobile phone by leaving it in the trousers that went into the wash Hope it does survive!
Tessa the Duchess
I am afraid I'd say 'probably' too My mobile phone died for ever when it got a pint of Guinness spilt over it in a pub, and I killed a keyboard with a spilt cup of tea, the airing cupboard sounds the best place for it and I think I would risk the warm hairdryer. How did your camera end up in the bottom of a bucket of water?? Tessa
Chook n Boo Mum
Uuuummmmm, it must have slipped off the top next to the bucket & wasn't noticed until this morning........DH is going to be sooo cross! Might teach me to empty buckets as soon as they are finished with, rather than leaving them 'til I get fed up with moving & kicking them! I am fairly convinced it's a goner, but am trying the dry it out route first! Sha x
Couperman
there is a chance it would survive if it had a quick dunk and it wasn't turned on. If it has been sitting submerged for weeks, then I would say it's chances of survival are about the same as Middlesbrough FC, slim to none. Having said that, come on Boro Kev. Redwing
It might be ok you now, let it dry really thoroughly and give it a try. The amount of Sony walkmans (showing my age) and Discmans I have dropped in to puddles, rivers, horses water troughs and water jumps over the years must be in the counting on two hands range and all of them have been fine! When you are as clumsy as me you only buy Sony
Angels4
A friend of mine did the same with her mobile, and placed it in a sealed container with a couple of those silica gel packets, (one or two may have even come with the camera) they are placed in packaging to help absorb moisture. After a few days she took it out and it worked just fine.
Geoid
You camera will probably be ok, put it in a sealed container with some rice in it. and put it in the airing cupboard, leave it for a week. don't touch it until the week is over, then try and see if it works. Chook n Boo Mum
Well, I've followed your advice - as always! - and the "casualty" is tucked up in a sweet tin (I knew I'd find a use for one of them sometime!!), with all available doors open, the battery and memory card removed and sitting on the flannel next to the camera, and a box of moisture removing crystals sitting next to them, hopefully drawing all moisture away from the poor little thing! The whole thing is living in the airing cupboard with the towels & sheets. I've also confessed to DH that I found it in a bucket of water! He agreed with the treatment and we'll see how things go at the weekend. I think he was surprised that I had put the crystals in the tin but couldn't work out what the tin was all about to start with though! Thanks again....and fingers crossed for a happy outcome!
