Monkey Lover
Hi All, New to forum as we just bought a cube for our 5 silkies (3 black 2 white) last weekend. They are about 11 weeks old and have managed within 3 days to come out of the cube in the mornings on their own. BUT in the evenings they are really struggling to get back up the ladder. We've put a wooden ramp on top of the plastic ladder to give them a chance (frustrating to build our own after paying £600 for a chicken house) but they still wont go up without a helping hand! Has anyone else had problems getting their chickens into the cube at night, and if so how have you solved it? Any help hugely appreciated
Egluntyne
They are very young to be negotiating the cube ladder tbh, and are a smaller breed on top of that. They will get the hang of it eventually. Welcome to the forum.
Cyber Chook
If you've made sure that the ramp is at a nice easy angle for them, could you try leaving a 'treat trail' going up the ramp and into the Cube, maybe? Something irresistable like mealworms, or mashed potato, perhaps? Caroline
Doodle
Put a plant pot at the bottom of the Cube ladder. They hop on to that and then hop up the steps.
meezers
My Silkie wouldn't even look at the ladder ( wooden ladder/wooden coop ) for the first few night I went out and lifted her onto it and with some persuasion she would go into the coop. I decided enough was enough when she came running over to me to be lifted onto the ladder So I made her some steps, large concrete blocks, bricks then log, she hops up that quite happily.
