4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hello all,

 

One of my chickens has developed nodules on each side of it's leg. Is this normal? My other chicken does not have them. They are coming up to 2 years old, is it a sign of age? They both seem perfectly well, good appetite and still laying.

If the chicken seems fine then personally i wouldn't worry about it

I know that I've seen it on other peoples chickens before although I not entirly sure.

Do you mean the bit above the back toe?

Yes, it is a little higher up the leg than the feet and appears as though it is protuding from the scales. ..

They are spurs, like cockerels have, some hens develop them too. My Cream Legbar has an impressive set.....and I only noticed last week!

I agree with Fee, they are spurs. My late lamented Artemis Fowl had a very impressive set.

One of my Polish bantams has them - we thought she was a cockerel for a time.
