ChickNic
Hello all, One of my chickens has developed nodules on each side of it's leg. Is this normal? My other chicken does not have them. They are coming up to 2 years old, is it a sign of age? They both seem perfectly well, good appetite and still laying. See picture below: [ Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks, Nicky
Scramble
have amended your link slightly That looks fine to me If the chicken seems fine then personally i wouldn't worry about it I know that I've seen it on other peoples chickens before although I not entirly sure. Do you mean the bit above the back toe? Sorry I can't help much, better advice will be along shortly
ChickNic
Yes, it is a little higher up the leg than the feet and appears as though it is protuding from the scales. ..
feemcg
They are spurs, like cockerels have, some hens develop them too. My Cream Legbar has an impressive set.....and I only noticed last week!
Scramble
This pic shows it as spurs...
Egluntyne
I agree with Fee, they are spurs. My late lamented Artemis Fowl had a very impressive set.
Patricia W
One of my Polish bantams has them - we thought she was a cockerel for a time.
