Has anyone has a mole removed?

I have one on my neck that I might have removed. How is it done? and does it hurt?

I had mine cut out but it didn't hurt - they may do it better now

My mum just had one removed, she had it 'shaved' off they sort of slice it off level with your skin so there is no stitches or pulling of skin etc

 

It scabbed over afterwards but she used bio-oil to stop any scarring

 

You honestly can't tell there was anything there now, the skin is perfect

I've had several removed of varying sizes.............the biggest one was a minor surgery job at the local hospital involving stitches ( but it was a very big mole), the smallest was just shaved off at the doctors.

 

The worst bit is usually the local anaesthetic jab.

I agree with Mrs Webmuppet about the local anaesthetic being the worst part. I had 2 moles removed from my back (some years ago now) and that is the only bit I remember

 

Mine had to be done as they were considered suspicious so they were cut out and I do have a 1" scar at the base of my back from the larger one. Luckily they proved to be completely innocent

I've not had a mole removed but I had some dark skin tags removed from my neck. He gave me a local which did sting, but then he bunt them off so there was no stitches and no scar. It was like a really big soldering iron and took no time at all, but it did smell awful in there! It healed super quick, was stiff for the rest of the day and absolutely fine after that.

For some reason I thought this was going to be about Moles in the garden .

 

I have had three removed at the doctors.

 

Once the needle has done the work with the numbing its painless. I do have three little scars but better than the moles that were there. They put the moles in some solution and sent them off and all came back negative. mine were taking off with this sharp hot knife thing that 'seals' it as it cuts.

 

The only stingy bit is the needle but its really not too bad (and when I had the first one done I had a phobia).

 

Because I was so scared the first time when the needle went in I jumped and made him jog so they were not sure if it all went in, he thought he would give it a go anyway so started to cut. It obviously hadnt fully taken as I could feel it so they did another lot and I felt nothing.

 

I would reccomend it as its really hassle free.

I had a large mole removed from my back. Wasn't nasty but was the size of a saltana and always catching on my hair in the shower. I have several moles on my back and get them checked regularly by my OH. (I had them photographed at a hospital appointment with a ruler for scale etc so we can see if any spread or change shape. Nothing so far *touches wood* which is good. Being on my back I can't watch them myself really!) To be sure all of it was removed i was given a local anaesthetic at my doctor surgery (They do minor procedures) and it was cut out and sent off for analysis (All ok). I was stitched up and left with a half inch scar which i didn't mind as I always cover my back because of the other moles. (My OH says it looks cool though, like a caterpillar left his footprints on my back)

 

Better safe then sorry.

If your worried, get them checked out.

 

My mum had a skin tag 'burnt' and cauterised (sp?) off as it was right on her waist line and always getting snagged on her jeans and belt etc. Wasn't too painful either.

 

Bio oil is great as mentioned by Redwing. I got my OH to rub some in daily once the wound had healed. These scar reduction patches are great too. Although they wouldn't stay on my back - i have used them to great effect on my forehead when my OH split it open with a golf ball! (But thats another story)

I had 2 done both with local and the anaesthetic was a bit stingy but not as bad as the dentist

One on my face was cut off and edges steri stripped - there's barely a mark now.

One behind my ear, which was also cut off which was a bit ucky as, although I didn't feel anything, I could hear the cutting etc since it was against the bone.

Wouldn't have any concern about having done though.

Christine, go for it and try not to worry. The peace of mind knowing a suspect mole is gone is far better. Once it's done, it's done and the worrying before hand is the worst part.

 

I faint at the sight of anything medical and yet I've had a suspect mole removed from my tummy (by the doctor, local anesthetic jab, 5 mins) and a lump from my head which took me 30 years to summon the courage to do. And now it's gone (cauterised ?sp? took 5 mins again at the doc's) I can brush my hair and not worry about it.

I had one removed from my underarm as it was getting bigger and itching, as well as catching on things. It was removed under local anaesthetic and cut out. There is a small scar, but much better than the mole, which was fortunately innocent.

 

I found the whole procedure straightforward and virtually painless. Good luck!
