Halifax Phishing Site

Recommended Posts

I tried to log on to my Halifax account this morning and was told my details were wrong. Convinced I had put the details in correctly I then started all over again and a notice flashed up that I was on a phishing site. Anyway after half an hour on the phone to the bank it is all sorted although someone tried to access my account withing minutes of me originally putting in my details. Apparently according to the Halifax Security people a new phishing site was set up only this morning and hundreds of people have been affected and of course may not yet know it. :(

I was advised always to type in full the address I want to go and never to store the address in my Favourites or Bookmarks.

I think I will stick to going in to the bank and asking about my balance, however embarrassing it might be near the end of the month

If you put the cursor over the "link" but don't click on it, you will see the originator's website address. This can be anywhere - usually some sort of statistics and advertising is mentioned. Just be very careful - the banks and b/socs don't have links to their website - you have to contact them yourself because of the pfishing. Amazingly I have had all sorts of banks and building societies saying that I need to contact them urgently to safeguard my account - even though I don't have an account with them!

Oops kind of misread you  - that's really odd that happened when you contacted them first!

Hi

I don't understand this. If you type in the adress once and then bookmark it, how can this become 'corrupted' and take you to a spoof site or whatever?

Anyone know ??

Thanks, H

If your computer gets infected with a virus or whatever (you might not realise) it could change all your addresses in your bookmarks etc.
