YEE-HAAA!!!!! Beaky came through at last!! *FIRST HARD ONE*

Recommended Posts

Beaky and I are now best friends - she laid today :dance::dance::dance:

I did the egg dance and told her I love her now, we are friends again (and Butterfly too just in case it was her!! ):clap::clap::clap:

It was a softie, and it was on the bars (well half of it was) but still most definitely an egg so her plumbing does work after all and she is no longer an ornamental hen!!

Just got to go scrub the (red eglu) again now - was a double yolker, one of which is between the bars on the paper, unbroken and perfect, the other is on the bars and dripping down onto the space where the tray should be catching it but isn't because I pulled it out to see :lol::lol:

Hooray for Beaky!!!! (or maybe Butterfly, neither of them have been behaving oddly at all so I couldn't say for sure who it was!!). Lets hope she manages a hard one tomorrow  so Hannah can discover it!

If it makes you feel any better Puddleduck, I undid the hose too quickly in my overexcitement and sprayed freezing cold water in my own face :lol::lol:

Sending eggy thoughts your way now (I didn't feel I could spare many before but now I can :D )

Well it was nearly white, with a bit of a pink tint to it - I think - I am a bit colour blind so I could be wrong  !! I'll post a photo when she lays a proper one (took one this time but it's in a poo tray so thought you might all lose your lunch if I posted it):lol::lol:

Assuming the next one's hard that is!! And even then it'd be poached egg - one between four!! Don't know whether to eat it on the day or wait til there's enough to go round..... who'm I kidding, course we'll eat it :lol::lol:

Dunno, we can't get near her to find out  !!! She's been flighty from day one, won't let you get within 6' of her! We knew we were in for trouble with her when the breeder took 10 minutes making a fool of herself trying to catch her for us

I'm guessing though that a very pale slightly pink means Beaky - if I'm right that is, could've done with someone else seeing it really. Nothing today so far but it's still early! Do they usually lay softies for a while or just the one to get going :?:

And once they start is it usually every day or might there be a few on-off days :?:

Some chickens do lay a few softies as they first come into lay, it's not unusual.

As long as she has access to plenty of grit (both soluble and insoluble) and is eating her pellets or meal ok, I wouldn't worry too much. You might get a few softies first - I think Chutney laid 5 or so before doing proper eggs.

She'll take the odd day off too!

Congratulations !

My first big girl egg from either my Goldline or bluebelle, layed a normal egg first go and layed ever since with the odd day off. My bluebelle crouched first and looks more mature than goldline. Both of their pelvic bones are wide enough to lay an egg. The eggs aare quite creamy sometimes with brown spots. I guessed its my goldline because people keep telling me bluebelles lay brown eggs.:?

It does sometimes take a few days for them to start laying every day so don't despair  .

Good news about the crouching - fingers crossed  . (Are we getting another poll :lol: ?)

Ha ha if we don't get some proper eggs soon I'll do another poll, although all the eggy thoughts it generated didn't seem to speed things up at all!!

I thought goldlines laid brown eggs and bluebelles laid pinky/plum ones :? So confusing! And I'm not 100% sure Butterfly is a goldline anyway - they called her a gold star but I don't know if that's the same or not!! So all in all I've no idea what to expect (or should I say eggspect  )!

I have a goldline, bluebell and an amber star and I get lovely little brown eggs from all of them, though Snowdrop used to produce the odd double yolker  ! The Orpies lay small very pale creamy egg and the batties lay anything from something the size of a duck egg to a bantam and the colour is never the same either, sometimes pale, sometimes dark, sometimes varigated, sometimes smooth, sometimes very rough...I think they just do whatever they fancy on any given day!

Congratulations on your first egg....I had 3 softies in my poo trays this morning  !

Well the first egg thrill has well and truely worn off now - nothing again today. We are once again not speaking :notalk:

A softie one day then nothing for two days, how cruel is that :( If I didn't have a photo of it I'd be doubting there was ever an egg of any sort and thinking I imagined it :?

First hard egg this morning - she wasn't teasing after all!! Perfect and in the nest box and everything hooray!!!

I love her again now, going to attribute it to Beaky for now but try and spot who's doing it tomorrow :D
