chooklady
One of my raspberry canes that I have in a pot at the moment has some tiny marks on the leaves, small spots which are rush coloured. Is this from a bug of some kind? I also noticed some greenfly which I sprayed will some safe pest control spray. Any advice would be gratefully received, I have moved this plant away from my other berry and currant bushes just in case. Many thanks Nicola Edited May 18, 2009 by Guest
eggypeggy
Difficult to say without seeing a piccie, but it's probably just the greenfly, I think they're sap suckers. They suck the liquid out of the leaf, that little sucked bit then dies and turns brown, probably nothing to worry about. Good idea to move plant seeing as you can, just in case. But as long as the plant doesn't look like it's suffering there's no need to get rid. good luck.
chooklady
I hadn't thought about a photo silly me. I will try and add one later. I've planted a marigold in the pot with the raspberry cane, hopefully this might help the greenfly thing.
Daphne
Its raspberry rust. I understand that this isn't fatal but can slow growth and productivity. We had some last year and have got it again this year on lower leaves. The new growth higher up is free. I think our yield was down a bit last year. You can pick off leaves - but destroy them, don't compost. Our canes are next to a blackcurrant, but this year and last it was OK so maybe (?) it doesn't migrate. I don't know the cause. chooklady
Thanks Daphne, I will pick off the leaves and destroy. Thanks for looking, I didn't think I should just ignore it.
