new chicken mum question

Recommended Posts

I provided a dust bath for my girls and they just keep eating it!! however today I noticed that one of them had scratched it all out of the pan (Its an old bbque tub) and then proceeded to roll about the floor..very funny to watch. do I just let them get on with it?

I have only had them since saturday they are so friendly my hubby has to keep reminding me that I do have children too :D:D

also does anyone use wood chipping on the run floor? would you say this is easier with the poo problem??

Just let them get on with it if you can cope with the contents of the dust bath on the floor!

My lot have a trug dust bath, they also eat it and flick the contents out and as I am a big softie I let them!

Regarding woodchip, I have used it and found it much better than bark. I now use a mixture of Aubiose and Bliss horse bedding which i find much better. Mainly as it composts down so quickly and absorbs the poo. I found the poo sits in the woodchip and I had to hose it down evey so often. There is also a thread running about rubber chippings which seem to work too.

Have I missed the pics of your new girls?

I don't know how to put pics in the post I have them ready to post.

They'll need uploading to a hosting site, I use flickr, and then when you've done that write:

[img*]the link flickr gives you will go here[/img*] and remove the asterix's.

Mine did same as yours but they enjoyed digging the contents of the dustbath around.

It's a lost cause expecting them to do what you want you just have to go with their desires.

I poo pick each day whether with woodchip or hemcore down and poo pick the garden each day. Just like to prevent flies and pong but think I'm probably just obsessive. :D
