Mrs Frugal
I've been toying with the idea of ordering this book for ages now and finally gave in and added it to my shopping basket the other day. What a great little book! Amazon's blurb... Product Description Precycle! is about recycling BEFORE you buy and is packed full with recipes for everything you would usually buy in the shops, from bleach to beer, from detergents to disinfectants. Make your very own 'Branston' pickle, peanut butter, washing up liguid and soap, save a fortune by making your own washing powder. Don't throw that plastic bottle away - Precycle it! by filling it with your own produce.
Guest
sounds interesting. I'm reading 'A Good Life' by Paul Peacock at the mo, a biography about John Seymour (who the TV series was based on). I believe he (Peacock) has also written a good book about sausage making. I've asked for a mincer/sausage stuffer for my birthday next month so I might get that book for myself p.s. 2 sheds has been making his own peanut butter for years
Mrs Frugal
It looks nicely written, Poet, and it's a nice price too £5 something on Amazon. I was rather taken with the Nutella recipe and will be giving that a try as I luuuuurve Nutella!! Lots of other really useful everyday recipes too. I have his "A Good Life" too but haven't got round to reading it yet.

Mrs Frugal
The home made recipes are good, aren't they. I think once you switch to home made versions, you don't go back. I haven't bought any cleaning products at all for over 5 years now and cope perfectly well with bicarb, vinegar and essential oils. I don't use washing powders or detergents at all either and just wash the clothes with water in the machine. They come out just as clean and soft and don't have that nasty artificial fragrance either.
Couperwife
ive only made softener up to now, im working through my stash of bought products and then ill make some of my own what oils do you use? I use lavender for the softener cathy x
Mrs Frugal
My favourite combination is 2 parts lavender to one part tea tree oil which I use in my household cleaning spray for the bath/toilet. It's antibacterial and smells lovely and fresh. Lavender and lemon is a nice combination too but my favourite oil for use in cleaning products is grapefruit. It smells scrumptious! Mandarin is lovely too. Eucalyptus is good for some stains on laundry and for removing sticky labels and chewing gum! If you like making your own, Cathy, try some of these - they all work really well.

Mrs Frugal
Pengy !!!!!!!!!! Good one !!! Emma, I'm so pleased you like the book. It's great, isn't it .
Milly
Another Omlet effect - it slipped into my basket too. Unfortunately Amazon required a signature and of course the postman comes when there is no one in so has taken it to the out of town collection point which is only open when I'm at work. So I'm not as pleased as I should have been! And it's not very green to have to drive all that way. Milly
Mrs Frugal
Oh that's a pity, Milly . Hope the book cheers you up when you are able to collect it.
Chook n Boo Mum
Now I know I'm supposed to be buying nothing new but... a - I needed some holiday reading b - It will save me money So It slipped into an Amazon order along with a book about bees and a book about cake decorating.... Pengy, I tend to think of books as an investment rather than a frittering of money , I have started looking on the secondhand part of Amazon rather than automatically ordering new from the; ok the books aren't necessarily perfect, but the info's still the same...I have 5 or 6 such books (including this one!) coming as I type. Even with the P&P they are still cheaper than brand new if you look carefully. Sha x
Mrs Frugal
I do that too, Sha. I love second hand books anyway, especially if someone has written notes in them or has left cuttings etc in. It's a nice way to recycle unwanted books too .
