Elderly cat breathing difficulties when purring

One of my chooks is ill! She is standing very still, with her eyes shut, in the corner of their run. When we pick her up, she doesn't seem to care, whereas she usually struggles until we put her down. Could it be the heat, or i have heard that some of these symptons could be a possible respiritory infection? When she makes her chickeny sound, she sounds a bit ho"Ooops, word censored!".

 

Any help would be great!

It could be the heat I suppose, do you have a cool dark garage you can pop her in a box in for a while to see if she improves?

She may also have a softie on the way (mine go all huddled and still with closed eyes with softies) and she may appreciate a bit of peace in the cool and dark to get on with it.

Was she eating and drinking this morning or has she been like this all day?

 

Have you done a health check on her. Listening to her breathing, checking for parasites, check her vent etc., this may help point you in the right direction.

 

Hope she picks up and it is just a softie.

We did a really long health check on her - everything was ok but her breathing was uneven. She ate a bit more towards the end of the day. If she is still unwell tomorrow, I will take her to the emergency vets. Thanks for replying guys!

Good idea. As you say, it might be a respiratory problem.

Glad to report that Marigold is looking a lot better today. We also now think she may have mites, so have bought some treatment from the shop!
