theherd123
Could you gather 80 photos of him & family spanning the years and get it made into a book for him?
Guest
Could you gather 80 photos of him & family spanning the years and get it made into a book for him? that's a good idea! I think when you get to that age, you don't really need anything materially wise. A lovely gift full of sentiment like that sounds lovely. Also get people to write messages and poems in the book
Ain't Nobody Here
I was thinking along the lines of a family photo but that's even better . Or, does he have any old cinefilm that could be put onto DVD? We did that with my parents old cinefilm a few years back (in fact, it might've been for my Dad's 80th!)
craftyhunnypie
We bought my father in law flying lesson in an old plane - as he was navigator in the RAF - he loved it. Hows about doing a nice cross stitch bowling picture with his birthday on? And maybe a nice new bowling bag. My father in law also plays bowls. For his last birthday, he requested a long sleeved polo shirt in his team colours (black), another birthday, he wanted a yellow jack. bigmommasally
We did a "This is your life" book/photo album for my father in law for his 65th/retirement, he's still got it and often brings it out so I think he was quite chuffed with it. Or how about a hot air balloon ride If he enjoys a tipple you could get a vintage bottle of port/wine/whisky maybe from the year of his birth - no idea how much that sort of thing costs though - I guess it all depends on whether 1929 was a good year? lisa33
Get one of those digital photo books and load it with piccies so he just has to plug it in and watch. We did that for Andyman's nan and she loves it.
sparkysmum
Hello Laura, It's my Mum's 80th in August so I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread as we're also stuck for idea since as Poet says when you get to this age there is absolutely nothing you want. I had suggested a garden bench but Mum was really quite upset at this. She said she would feel so alone (my Dad passed away a few years back). Just as well I mentioned it too her & didn't surprise her I like the cross stitch idea, and the digi photo frames. Are you having a party Laura Allisonx
Ain't Nobody Here
I bought a digital photo frame (for myself ) last Christmas - there's a whole thread about them somewhere if you decide to go down that route .
Chucky Mama
For my Mother in Law we pinched her old photo album pretending we wanted to show the children something and scanned all her photos on to our computer (you can actually photoshop them to improve the quality which is amazing). We then got the family to email us their best recent family photos and uploaded all of them to a digital photo frame. This saved her having to do anything technical. Now to update it, we just remove the memory card and drag and drop new photos on.
katieadams
We took my Grandad to Iceland where he was stationed in the war for his 80th - my mum and I went too it was great! Might be a tad expensive though depending on where he was
chickencam
I like the photos idea, it is my grandad's 90th in July and he has all that he needs really, so we always struggle.
