Lesley
We've been disenfranchised! I've always voted - I owe it to the Suffragettes! - but not this time Since we moved here there haven't been any elections and it wasn't until last Friday that I realised that we hadn't received any voting cards. As we're between villages now I checked with friends in both villages and they'd had theirs so I phoned the Council. We don't exist!! We exist when it comes to paying Council Tax - that took a while to sort out as they insisted for a while that we lived in the caravan that used to be on this site before the house was built. It would appear that the Planning Dept., Council Tax Dept., and Electoral Roll Dept. don't have a joined up computer system!!! The forms were sent out last October, to 'The Caravan'............ I said that the forms would have been returned to them if undelivered.........they were, but they don't follow it up I'm spitting mad! I was looking forward to voting this week - mind you, there's no Monster Raving Looneys any more....... Forms are on their way in case the results of the European Elections catapult us into a General Election so at least we shouldn't miss that one! I feel better for that rant........ moochoo
What a suprise, they can find you easily enough for your council tax but when it comes down to your right to vote...ooops we can't find you. At least you found out before the general elections.
ubereglu
How rubbish, but at least you're closer to sorting the problem out now.
ChrisP
Whoops! Funny how they know exactly where you live then you owe them money (the tax) but have no idea when its not going to give them money...
Tina C
When we moved (half a mile) we were disenfranchised because we sent off the forms less than 3 weeks before the local elections. I would not have minded but we were in the same ward. We were unable to vote simply because the change of address was being processed. Mad.
