There were only three candidates in our ward, the lib dem, a tory called Chuck Berry (I kid you not!) and, for the green party, Sophy Fearnley-Whittingstall. She may have stood more of a chance with me if her campaign literature said: 'like my brother, TV's Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall...' and I though 'who else is it going to be? If you're going to trade on your famous connections at least don't treat us like morons - I'm sure 'Like my brother, Hugh' would have been adequate!'

 

I think she'd have lost my vote for the name-dropping! Surely the policies should be more important!

 

Agreed! I have just realised that having a Fearnley-Whittingstall as a local council candidate makes us sound very posh - I hasten to assure people that's not actually the case! She lives about 1/2 mile away in a remote farmhouse and has stood for council because she was annoyed at the council trying to site some travellers about halfway in between our houses :)
