Purple Sprouting broccoli?

Recommended Posts

We planted some last year to be ready through winter. They were badly slugged and caterpillared :? I left the stumps in the ground and some new leaves appeared in Spring, but not enough to eat.

The plants recently went berserk.....and we now have some magnificent plants  - we took a whole head of PSB out of the middle of one plant yestreday.....like a big purple cauliflower! :D

The PSB that I sowed in March this year has huge leaves. And I noticed a head of PSB amongst them. I haven't had time to look and see if there is any more, hidden among the leaves. But it's supposed to be ready from January onwards.....

When our plants had finished flowering this year I pulled them up, roots and all, and hung them up in the chickens' run - the chickens had a fantastic time with them, leaves, stalks, slugs & all! It was so much fun I'm about to lift the last of the early spuds to plant out next spring's PSB - and even if we don't get much off it, the chickens will be happy
