Faye&Ant
Ok so I haven't added the picture yet... has anyone seen the picture of the 21 week old unborn baby that was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from he womb? The little guy was operated on whilst in the womb and survived. It is such a lovely picture and story if it is real as you see a tiny hand gripping the surgeons finger I didnt add the picture as I though it was abit too gruesome and didnt want the mods to tell me off

ubereglu
Wow, I hadn't heard about this. It's truly amazing what they can do now isn't it!
..lay a little egg for me
It was a great photo...it has been circulating the web for quite a long time now. If you check it out on snopes though you find that the baby did not actually grip the surgeons hand!

Snowy
Intrauterine surgery has been around for a few years now - but I don't think the surgeons hand goes inside - they use very fine instruments. Sounds like a good pic though
ChrisP
Is there a link for this story? I hadn't head of this
..lay a little egg for me
See here for details according to snopes. Briefly: The surgery was performed in 1999. As the surgeon was closing the incision in the womb, the foetus' hand flopped out and the surgeon gently lifted it and tucked it back inside. A lot of misinformation has been added in many of the e-mails circulating the web claiming that the child's hand reached out and gripped the surgeon's finger. Still amazing that such surgery can be performed (and has been for the last decade). WARNING - contains graphic scenes! - Christian
