bronze
Who was it who mentioned freezing elderflowers? I can't find the post. How did you do it. Chop them up? bag them? etc etc Just wondered as ours is only just coming out and I go away for 10 days on saturday fo 10 days so a) want to pick the few there are before they go and b) get dh to pick some so I can do it another time. If frozen would they work for cordial?
Charlottechicken
I think it was Poet. Not sure what the outcome was though I suppose it's worth a try if you are going to miss the whole flowering season. Good luck
missuscluck
I have just picked mine and bagged it up as it is and put it in the freezer. It looks ok. Not sure if this is the correct method. Poet has made some cordial recently out of last years flowers that she froze. Im sure she will point you in the right direction.
Valkyrie
Yes, I couldn't find it either, so I Googled it and found that it is OK to freeze - put the heads in a plastic bag. Apparently the flowers drop off the stalks making it easier to use when needed. I haven't got round to that yet - been using them all as soon as we pick them. Now we are thinking of getting a bigger freezer too (as well as more pots and pans).
Guest
yep, it was me. I coutned out the right amount of umbels, pulled the main stalk off and bagged and froze the rest. They went brown in the freezer but the cordial tasted lovely.
