Cream legbar chicks *Boy or girl?*

Recommended Posts

Hi All

We picked up three new chicks today all six weeks old, two cream legbars and one Maran x Rhode Island Red. The two legbars do not look very similar - one is mainly grey, the other has the salmon colour mixed in.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this, is the grey chick likely to be male, we've been told its a hen..? It also has bent toes on both feet, poor thing, does anyone have any ideas please.

I have tried to add some links to pics, hope it works.

Many Thanks

Hi

Thanks for all your replies, I’m gutted he’s a boy as I won’t be able to keep him. I know if I take him back he will be disposed of and I’m fond of him already. Does everyone agree he is a boy?

I’m now paranoid the other chicken is a boy – the Maran x Rhode Island Red, any thoughts please? If so, it would leave me with only one hen which I would have problems introducing to my others. The breeder does not have any other stock to swap the chicks for and has assured me the legbars are girls but have different colouring. I’m regretting getting the new chicks as its left me feeling slightly stressed and worried about the future of the male chick. My other two adult girls have been such a pleasure to have but since the arrival of the chicks it’s been non-stop squawking and flapping, my neighbours are not so impressed. I feel I’ve really rocked the boat!

Thanks for your help
