Growing olives in the UK

Recommended Posts

I'm in Abingdon near Oxford and my olive tree produces fruit - but they don't ripen. The fig is another story - that is prolific. Passion fruits ripen too.

My sister is in Bournemouth and her olive tree fruits and a few ripen - almost.

These are all outside so it may be more successful if they were under glass? I'll be interested in the replies.

My parents bought one at Christmas.

They live in Surrey, and spent a LOT of time researching and going to specialist Olive centres to get the right tree for their situation and to give themselves a chance of fruit. There are so many varieties - as I am sure you have already found out!!

It is currently full of small fruit. Whether they will ripen or not we will find out later in the year!!

A local garden centre were selling them off cheap recently - but their label only read "olive tree". No idea of variety, size, anything!! Useless.... :wall:
