The Dogmother
That sounds gorgeous Peter It always looks better when you've finished boning it and have all the odds and ends tucked in Don't worry, you weren't responsible - I think all of the groups over-ran
Lewis
Luckily Jude had some mature meat birds that they could use... and a naughty cockerel, who had pecked yard staff once too often! ... Rosie watched the despatching (she's seen me doing it before anyhow) and wants to have a go herself next time. The cockerel was huge! There were 3 of us plucking him I thought Rosie was really good and I wouldn't have been brave enough to do it that young (and she can make a better cuppa than me ) I didn't connect you were there Peter, which course were you on? Redwing
Claret, I have two table birds ready to go if Rosie wants to have a go, they are big and quite heavy but because they are so big they give minimal fuss when doing the deed, give me a shout if you want a go - you can take it home after! I probably spoke to you then just didn't realise, if there are any photos I'll probably recognise you. Glad you had a good day, it seems most people did. My mom still isn't convinced about raising them in the garden because they'll be too much like pets. Mom said someone at work will have all the giblets and bones for her cat, and the same lady has chickens and when they die she minces them up for the cats so it doesn't go to waste I wouldnt be able to do that

Thanks, I will tell her that Lewis - she did a good job with the teas and stuff on the day... in between wearing a kitten around her neck Claret, I have two table birds ready to go if Rosie wants to have a go, they are big and quite heavy but because they are so big they give minimal fuss when doing the deed, give me a shout if you want a go - you can take it home after! Thanks for the offer Tasha - we still 'owe' a visit to your place! I'll have to get in touch about when though, as we're really busy at the moment. The Dogmother
No! That misunderstanding was funny, wasn't it? Both those kittens are seriously cuddlable, aren't they? Shame the gelding is a bit big to snuggle up to...

Hmmm I need to clone myself, I think!! naughty Ginger hen spotted I had a bag of mealworms in my pocket just now and when I bent down to stroke her she pulled the bag out and ran off with it, scattering mealworms all around... it was actually rather funny to see....a Benny Hill chase scene with all the other hens legging it after her! tidygirlsuk
I had a great time on the course. I glad they didn't give me that massive cockerel, the guy asked if I wanted to swap. I said 'no thanks'. It was alot easier than i thought but I cheated when I got to the boning and I jointed it. I'm having the breasts tonight. It was lovely meeting some of you. I wish that I could have met more of you at the pub.

Lewis
I love the insides too! Those diagrams up on the wall in the classroom were good aswell, so you knew what looks like what inside a chicken We're not allowed to do dissections at school unless the animal has been grown for that purpose and has been killed and prepared in a special way. At the end of last term we were going to dissect rats in school - they come from Africa and are £16 each! but we ran out of time and are hoping to do it around Christmas time
compostwoman
Gosh! I remember taking dead rats and mice in to school for Biology disection classes when I was 13.... mind you that WAS 35 years ago ( gulp)
The Dogmother
I used to enjoy dissecting, guess that's where she gets it from. Rosie is 11 now, compostwoman, and not the slightest squeamish unless it's her own pain.
