Jewels
Hi, one of my girls was a bit off colour on Wednesday, she kept going into the coup to lay and then spent hours just "nesting" on the floor in the flower beds, later she laid a soft shelled egg and was alot brighter. However yesterday she laid another soft shelled egg although she is no longer off colour and seems herself again but again today she has laid a soft shelled egg all three just laid in their run, not their coup. They have access to grit. I was wondering shall i worm her? Or will this phase just pass. She seems fine now. Any advice greatly appreciated
Nats
Well, when my girls have some soft shells I give them more oyster shells and that seems to do the trick for them. They do have plenty of grit and gather all sorts when in the garden but I think sometimes they just need that bit more. It works for mine; hopefully it will help yours. Good luck. If my book has anything I'll get back to you.
sjp
try life guard it might be she needs extra Vitamin D can also add cod liver oil to feed both of which I have to use regularly as one of my girls lays shell-less egg far to often especially when we had those spells of cold grey and damp weather about a month back the extra calcium didn't work forgot to include meal worms they contain an amino acid called Lysine that helps with the absorption of calcium, but don't give to often as they are fattening Edited June 26, 2009 by Guest
jomaxsmith
My Coral goes through stages of soft eggs. I give her Limestone Flour in their mash to give her extra calcium, they have it all the time but when she is laying softies I increase it. You can buy it from equine suppliers Jo
