Allergy Symptoms

Recommended Posts

Could glands sweling up a sign of an allergy?? The other night we had a meal out and a few hours later the gland on the left side of my neck was MASSIVE!!! and painful, its gone down since and now is only a little lump, the doc said it can happen for many reasons and sometimes no reason at all. We ate out last sat lunchtime and got ulcers in my mouth and back of my throat then this fri night the gland swelling??? i had wine on both occasions which is the only obvious similarity i can think of other than them both using something i never knew of whilst cooking!! Im am also tired a lot of the time and slept most of the weekend after this happening, i think i slept more than i was awake!

Just interested to see other people's symptoms as the docs arent being very helpful they just said to keep an eye on it!

My DD has had an allergic reaction to wine once but it invovled her lips and tongue swelling and a rash appearing on her face so a bit different. An allergy doctor said that there is something in some wine that can cause reactions.

I think Tiggy is probably right and you are going down with something, I feel just like you do.

In all my yrs of nursing I only saw severe reaction in my son last yr to nuts. He had funny feeling in throat, vomited, had like asthma attack and hives all over. By the time he got to A&E his throat was twice the size.

I dont think glands are affected by allergies. Mouth ulcers often a sign of being run down. If not had one recently ask fot bloods fbc, glucose, liver kidneys tft's and probably ferritin, B12 and folate - esp if you are veggie. what meds are you on? Good luck

Not on any meds just lots of bongela! ive always suffered with mouth ulcers but they seem to be getting more frequent now, im always tired and could sleep for england apart from that i feel fin in myslef, i have had bad hayfever this year and i get a really itchy throat from it so there may be a connection there. i think glands take a while to go down once they are up dont they? its still there but not as big and still quite tender..

HI GemSeb - i would still ask for blood test - depending on your age - possbily a glandular fever and throat swab. You dont mention if you've had bloods recently. if you feel that unwell your GP should be doing more. Sorry soap box nurse on the go again :shameonu:

Worth googling Candida symptoms. Having had increasing allergies over past few years and constant problems with swollen glands, catching colds, tiredness, and other symptoms I became convinced that there was something behind it. For me Candida fit the bill - I have been very strict in working out food intolerances and am like a new woman - loads more energy, much healthier, dropped a dress size, look and feel 10 years younger. It was a lot of hard work sorting out what foods were having negative impact on me and I felt at first I was only eating carboard (!) but has been well worth it. A big plus is that I had seemed to be allergic to eggs, but have found I can now eat them (it was the bread I was having them with that was doing me in!). Good luck with it - you may find a homeopathic doctor more helpful that standard. Also, many tests look only for definate allergies, not for milder intolerances, which can give low grade symptoms which over time can be very depleting.

It sounds to me like it would be worth you getting a few blood test done. Before my underactive thyroid was diagnosed, I suffered with swollen glands particularly on one side of my neck and regularly got tonsilitis and throat infections. I think this was because I was a busy mum and generally very run down.

There are several things that could cause these syptoms, don't live with it, go to see your GP and get to the bottom of this and you will wish you had done it years ago.

Good luck and hope you are feeling better soon.
