emmamakeup
Just been out in the garden to find the girls had broken down the barriers to the tomatoes and were in scratting away. I'd put organic pet friendly slug pellets down and I couldn't see any of them. I know they say they are pet friendly but?????? I'm really worried now!!!!!! What should I do????? Feel I've been posting for England on here today.
Chucky Mama
If they say they are pet friendly you should be OK. I would however phone the company that makes them and double check (mainly cos I am paranoid). Some things that are OK for dogs and cats are not necessarily OK for birds but I doubt very much if they could put pet friendly on the packaging if they weren't OK
emmamakeup
Thanks Chucky Mama - that's what I thought really they wouldn't say pet friendly if they weren't but the thought of losing my girls to such a thing is awful. They not managed to get round the metal mesh so far but they are crafty. Just checked on them and so far so good.
Egluntyne
Ordinary slug pellets can cause respiratory distress in hens. I would watch out for that to be on the safe side. I would ring the company as has been suggested, to put your mind at rest.
AspleyIFA
This happened to me too and fortunately they were ok. I used an organic/pet friendly pellet and ended up having to call the manufacturer. To be honest they didn't care and told me ' a chicken is a bird and there is a picture of a bird on our logo so we assume it is ok for birds to eat.' I think the issue that we tend to eat their eggs opposed to eating Starling's eggs fell on deaf ears and brought me to the conclusion that they don't give a hoot. Is the pellet you used called Growing Success Advanced Slug Killer and in a blue labelled bottle? I would not eat the eggs for a while until someone can confirm that the ingredients are ok for us to dip toast into! Good luck with your girlies.
