chelsea
Any Greyhound/dog lovers out there with the time to write a letter to their MP? I've just received this letter from the Dog's Trust whom I am a member: Dear It is estimated that every year thousands of Greyhounds disappear. This includes dogs whose racing days are over as well as those that are bred for the sport but never make it to the track. The Government has drafted regulations to protect the welfare of racing Greyhounds but Dogs Trust is very disappointed with the scope of their proposals. Although there are some sensible suggestions, we feel the proposals do not go nearly far enough. Dogs Trust has given detailed feedback on the proposed regulations to DEFRA. We have also written to all MPs drawing their attention to the inadequate proposals and urging them to contact us to find out more about what we believe is needed to ensure the welfare of all racing Greyhounds from cradle to grave. We ask you to show your support by writing to your MP expressing your deep concerns. Here is a guideline letter to help you: Dear [MP] I am writing to urge you to support Dogs Trust in campaigning for stronger measures to protect Greyhounds from cradle to grave. Following the passing of the Animal Welfare Act in 2006 two investigations into the welfare of racing Greyhounds were undertaken. In response to the findings of these investigations the Government committed to introducing regulations to address the main welfare problems associated with Greyhound racing. The proposed regulations do not go far enough and focus too much on the Greyhounds whilst at the tracks. There are no proposed regulations to ensure the welfare of the dogs when they are in their kennels where they spend around 90% of their time. The problem of Greyhounds disappearing from the sport is also largely ignored. Please contact the Dogs Trust press office on 0207 837 0006 / pressoffice@dogstrust.org.uk to find out more, so no Greyhound need ever suffer again. Yours sincerely, [Name] You can find out who your MP is and contact them online by visiting Write to Them. craftyhunnypie
Me too. I worked with a bloke who raced greyhounds. It's horrific how they are kept & trained to race. (shudder). Such gentle giants too. Emma.x
Lesley
I had the email from Dogs Trust and have written - it doesn't bear thinking about what happens to so many healthy dogs which just don't make the grade

lyd119
there are rescues out there for ex-racers. The retired greyhound trust is one of the main ones which is where we got our girl from. they have branches all over the country and are very friendly, kind people.
