GeorgeA
Hi All, I am currently feeding my two hens the food from Omlet (got my first egg today, unfortunately my daughter got to it first and she is going to share with her brother tommorow for breakfast) I was going to transfer the feed into washed out milk cartons for storage, stops it getting damp etc. I then noticed that it is always sold in paper bags by my local pet shops etc. Can it be stored in air tight containers? What do you all do? Thank you in advance for you answers and suggestions.
Olly
I've got a plastic dustbin with a clamp-down lid, because mine is stored in the garage and I don't want mice getting into it. You definitely don't want it to get wet or it will go mouldy. It doesn't have to be in an air-tight container but I don't think it would do any harm if it were. Redwing
I use the 40l version of these, they are ace http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90099049 Airtight plastic boxes are also fine but not rodent proof so as long as you can keep them out of reach you should be fine
Chickvic
Mine is stored in the sack in a metal dustbin. Mine is stored outside so I also tie the lid down, when it was stored on a plastic cupboard we had a mouse get in

Egluntyne
I keep mine outside in a metal dustbin, with the lid tied down. Never had any problems with spoilage.
bigmommasally
I use the large one of these, haven't had any problems with any little critters and the feed keeps fresh http://www.petsathome.com/find/keyword-is-food+storage/product-is-V00103
xScrunchee
Mine is kept in one of those green garden storage box things in the sack along with all the rest of the chicken/guinea pig/wild bird stuff. So far I haven't had any problems. (In over 2 years) I also fill up a large sweet jar with pellets and add the garlic powder and shake it up so that it is easier to feed garlic pellets rather than having to mix it together in the grub. It has always been fine in the jar too.

bexbex
I'm thinking about getting this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001501/partNumber/8422831.htm Then using one bit for chicken food, one bit for corn and the other bit for bunny food. Can store it outside in the plastic shed thing all the food bags are at the minute. Not sure if will be big enough though so going to order it and see. rufusrooster
I bought one of those big brown plastic boxes from b&q (£50), sited it on the patio raised on spare block pavers, looks ok and you can sit on it as well, keep all my chicken stuff in there, only plastic so im gonna have to keep my eye out for rodents but no problems so far, if you have a home brewery/wine making shop nearby, the plastic fermenting bins with sealable lids are ideal, i keep my pelletes in a large 25l bin and my mixed corn, grit in smaller 10l bins,
