On the 1st August is the World Championship Hen Races at the Barley Mow pub, Bonsall near Matlock. http://www.barleymowbonsall.co.uk/default.aspx?tabid=259 According to the website the races have been happening for years. Olly Posted July 29, 2009 Share Posted July 29, 2009 I don't know how it works but if you lobbed a cherry tomato in front of them, my chickens could probably beat Usain Bolt! I'd assume it's checked out by the RSPCA or similar. I agree that I woudn't want to see chickens being terrified of crowds, but I guess the people taking part pick their chickens accordingly, it doesn't sound as if it's taken too seriously.
