Has anyone else had a problem with....?

Recommended Posts

...bugs in the eglu!! It is driving me mad, i poo pick everyday, give it a full clean and spray with poultry shield every weekend but we still seem to get lots of little bugs in the eglu. Don't know if this is the damp weather or what?!

I know it can't help being on the floor but surely they are designed to be on the floor so this shouldn't be an issue!! As i keep it clean it isn't a problem but must admit it is a little tedious  and wondered if i was the only one experiencing this!!?!

I recently sprayed the inside of my Eglu with Raid (Not the fly spray in the blue can, I mean the crawling insects one in the red can). I would advise doing it as early in the morning as possible and letting it air out all day to get rid of the strong smell. I left the Eglu door open that night too but mine is in a WIR so I knew they would be ok for one night.

It kills all crawling insects as soon as they walk on it and it keeps working for up to 6 weeks.

Should stop the bugs and any redmite or lice too I'd imagine :D

Do you mean those little black flies ?- we've got loads of them this year, don't remember it being a problem last year, so maybe it is the damp weather. Chooks don't seem bothered by them, I did suggest they eat them, but they haven't taken me up on it :o

I made a small fly curtain out of an old plastic coated table cloth and fastened it up over the door on the inside with duck tape. just cut to size then cut strips at about 2"intervals. first attempt I put on out side but could not close the door so now on inside. the girls quite happy to go through the curtain. Seems to be a lot less flies now. have done something similar on the nest box entrance don't get as much poo in there now they don't seem to go in there after dark now. I have a cube not sure if you do this with eglu.

We use Hemcore in the nestbox.

As this has Citronella in it already, it seems really good for keeping flies out of the Eglu. :D

We also use Hemcore for the run as well - not sure worth buying a whole bale just for the netsbox!!

This seems a great idea... you should suggest it to the people at Omlet... maybe they could manufacture a proper version of it?!
