We have an Isa Brown and a Goldline and they are similar, the Goldline has paler feathers all over whereas the Isa Brown just had a pale ruff and tail. We also have a Columbian Blacktail who hasn't really got a blacktail just the odd feather.

A lot of the brown hydrids have similar parentage I think.

Not sure if this is right but when I was researching which girls to get I found that a ISA Brown was a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Rhode Island White. I have a Warren and she is a Rhode Island Red crossed with a Light Sussex..... Am i right in thinking a ISA Brown is a kind of trademark name for RIR and RIW.... and a 'warren' is a RIR crossed with another breed?

Knew I had seen something.... ISA stands for Institut de Sélection Animale, the company which developed the particular breed in 1978 for egg production as a battery hen....

Meant to say also...my warren is very friendly...cant comment on the egg production as, even after 3 weeks, not one of my 4 has given me any eggs yet :)

My three brown hens (all gingernut rangers from Omlet) are completely different to one another.

Rose is really, really light. More off white with light ginger.

Brandee is really dark ginger with some black feathers in her tail and Jasmine is very much in the middle of both of them. Mid ginger with creamy bits. Wonder if Gingernuts are any hen that is ginger rather than RIR x light sussex!!?

Rose and Brandee are also nearly twice the size of Jasmine :lol:

I have 2 Gingernuts, Opal has white tail feathers and around her leg and knickers, and Ruby is really red all over. My cousin had 2 Gingernuts that were white with a little bit of ginger on their wings and then had 2 more that were ginger with white on their wings  All different!

I have a Warren (Berny) and she's a lovely chook - excellent layer and very friendly. She's quite a greedy and vocal one too when she's after treats and follows me around the garden until I give into her. She won't hesitate in snatching a biscuit out of my hand :)

Exactly, our four are the same, show them a grape, pea or sweet corn and you'll get knocked down in the rush  . They're all different in colouring her's Alice you can see the Rhode Island Red and White in her. Here she's doing an excavation job with Violet, Fern is about to join in Heather (coffee bum) is off rearranging the compost heap. Four chooks and four eggs a day at the moment. Spanish omelette tonight......

They all have white tips to their tails, so you can find them in the long grass
