4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi

I've just been given some young quails (2 girls, 1 boy) by a friend. My OH doesn't know I've got these!

 

She has now offered me some older girls and I was wondering whether these have to be introduced in the same way as chickens. They would have to be introduced without the OH knowing as well.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Fiona,

Not sure about introductions, similar to chickens I think. They can be quite fierce to each other so be prepared to seperate if necessary.

I'm intrigued to know what you're planning to keep them in so that OH doesn't notice

They are in a hutch at the other side of the chicken area out of sight. I put them there hoping that as he tends not to go through where the chickens are - fingers crossed he won't change the habit of a lifetime.

You will need to keep them together but separate the same as for introducing hens.

Managed to keep them from him so far. Kids keep eating them

They need slow intros like chickens. See if you can get a spare budgie cage and pop the new ones in it with the cage in the young ones cage so they are close but can't fight.
