Egg Bound?????

Recommended Posts

Lily Pie was hatched on February 1st this year. She's a mongrel, with a fair bit of Cuckoo Maran. Two of her fellow mongrel sisters are laying already, one for about two weeks and one since the weekend. A third sister has no head gear at all and we'll be lucky to see an egg by Christmas

I know girls get noisy as they're coming into lay, it's obviously a confusing time but I've found that once they've laid they calm down.

Lily Pie started being vocal about a month or so ago. She's been crouching all that time too. Her sister Poppy has made a nest down the side of the house and sometimes lays there, the rest of the time in either of our coops. We've searched the garden but cannot find any other nests so we don't think Lily is laying elsewhere.

This morning Lilys screeching has reached new heights. She's very anxious, literally dashing all around the garden yelling her head off. Assuming she wanted to lay but wasn't sure where to go I shut her inside her coop for half an hour, all the while listening to her from the outside. In the pouring rain I might add! She didn't settle down, she kept pacing and digging at the floor, still screaming. Feeling sorry for my neighbours I've brought her indoors in a cat basket where she's still digging away. She makes more noise if I touch her, it's like watching a woman in labour.

I've read about egg binding but she's not showing classic symptoms. She's not depressed, her feathers aren't puffed up, she's just frantic and yelling. I've just taken this video of her:

She's quietened down but still can't settle. Any ideas?

She laid an egg! She went a bit quiet, then started screeching again and then that turned into the 'Egg Song' :D She's back outside now, still being noisy but not as noisy as earlier.

And best of all, IT'S GREEN :dance::dance: She hatched from a dark olive green egg so I was really really hoping she'd lay green. It's not as dark but it's greeeeeeeeeeeeen  I'm so proud of her, and Poppy and Robin. Who would've thought my first attempt at hatching, and just plain old mongrel Ebay eggs at that, would've turned out to be such wonderful clever ladies who between them lay these:

I love my girls sooooooooooooo much :D

:( Lily Pie hasn't quietened down at all. Thankfully she doesn't lay every day but when she does there is at least three hours of screeching. I can't have noisy girls here and quite frankly a cockerel would make less noise! This morning Lily Pies bags are packed and she's off to live with a friend on a stud farm. It's in the middle of nowhere so she can be as noisy as she likes. We'll miss her but not the noise!
