Eggs tilting?

Recommended Posts

Me again

I've noticed the past couple of days that the eggs are becoming heavier (all but one)

well, Everytime i go to turn the eggs they have moved :?

I put them so either the X or O is facing up but the pointy end of the eggs have become that heavy that they are tilting the eggs to the side

Is this normal/will it affect the little critters?

Thanks,

Raina :D

I dunno what's happeed but the veins and little black blob in one of the eggs is gone :?

That's the egg that wasn't tilting and wasn't getting heavier too

The rest of the eggs look like this

The black blobs on the rest of the eggs do move about, but the pic doesn't show the blob or the veins properly :wall:

I am new to hatching too (and webcams as you know!) but I have seen pictures on the internet that say that a ring in a clear egg mean that the egg is no longer viable. Its a ring of bacteria.....

I am probably misunderstanding here but my incubator book says that you can either incubate with the pointy-end downwards, or on their sides. One of my last hatch used to roll off to one side all the time and used to worry me but that was the one egg that hatched with no problems whatsoever. The weather we're having is completely messing up incubator humidity levels. It's so tricky get it right but if you can see movement and vein development then that's good. Blame everything on the weather. :)

It is true about the ring of bacteria but as long as you see veins, movement and progression in growth then they should be fine.

All the best to you and your chicks. xxx

Those are great pics, thanks for posting them :D

The first one looks clear, but is not such a clear clear that I would give up on it, there may still be hope

A ring of bacteria in an egg looks like a ring rather than a blob. I have had three with rings and they were all really obvious

Thanks,

I took a video of one of the eggs lastnight moving about!

My laptop has decided that only 1 USB port is going to work (being used by a keyboard, the laptop one broke) so i'll try and upload it on my sis's PC later and post it :D

hi raina

i can't help with the hatching sorry, i took the easy option and used the worlds broodiest chuck ever! i am following your progress with great interest though and think a lot of people using an incubator will find it very useful.

i can imagine that the responsibility of looking after such precious little things is quite scary, especially when you've got kids getting excited about having fluffy little chicks soon

good luck x
