-sarahjayne
Martha is roughly 28 weeks old and has been laying for 8 weeks, recently we've been getting an egg a day ( ) However I noticed when she took a drink from the drinker that her bum was very dirty! She's still lively as ever and is still very inquisitive, eating, drinking and I don't think it was a soft egg because all her eggs have been of very good quality (apart from an extremely pale yolk compared with her sisters yummy runny ones!) It's not flystrike either as have had a good check over her vent area, no cuts or sores or flesh. Just wondering what this could be? We're flubenvetting them as a precaution, no lice or mites, we p.shield, diatom, and red mite and louse powder the house everytime it's cleaned. chelsea
I wouldnt worry too much, you've eliminated lice/mites which I would have suggested you look for anyway . I just think some chicken's have fluffier bums than others (and Martha looks quite fluffy!) so they tend to poo over themselves when they do the runny ones (sorry! ) Try and give her a bum wash as often as you can - particularly in the warm summer season, she will feel better for it too. Plum
Does she sleep in the nest box that could make it a bit mucky
