Slugs....help

Recommended Posts

Hiya

I am just after a bit of advice on what to do about slugs.

every morning the feeder is overrun with them and there are loads underneath and in the storage box with all the chickens stuff in.

The girls dont eat them but I dont like the idea of them being all over their food and messing everywhere, obviously we carnt put repellent down inside the run but wasnt sure if we put traps on the otherside of the fencing if it would draw them out into the traps and away from the run/coop.

thanks

Alli

Don't forget that if your chickens are partial to slugs make sure that you Flubenvet (worm) them regularly.

"Cestodes (Tapeworm) are flattened, ribbon-shaped worms, usually segmented. Cestodes use arthropods and other invertebrates as their intermediate hosts. Poultry become infected by swallowing infected snails, slugs or insects".

We have the same problem and someone advised taking the food out at night and just putting it back in in the morning. It's worked a treat and we only have slugs now if there is some cabbage or something left in the run. Our girls don't eat them either which is a shame because there was a real feast there...

My Nan used to get HUGE slugs in her garden in Cornwll...bigger than I've ever seen before or since & we used to pick them up & throw them over the hedge & listen for the squelch as cars went over them in the road outside :vom: ......can't work out now how we heard the squelch over the car sounds, but that was our story  .....I don't think we ever hit anyone's car with the slimy missiles :anxious:
