madchickenlady
Ok, now that we've got over the shock of losing Belinda, I'm planning on two more hens. My five remaining girls are all pekins, and gorgeous. I'm just wondering if there are other bantam breeds which will happily live with pekins, without being bullied (they are feisty madams!). I quite like the look of sablepoots, seramas and bantam frizzles. Any experiences?
Redwing
I recently put a bantam orp x wyandotte in with my Pekins and she is fine with them Like all indtroductions there will be establishment of the pecking order but things should settle down Frizzles should be sine, I think Seramas may be too small to cope with a Pekin though! I would go for the larger bantams like wyandotte, orp, Rhode Island reds, Marans. Polands would also be ok. Silkies are nice , they are officially large fowl but are smaller than your average hen
Janty
I have pekins and they live with the big girls as well as RIR miniatures, a brahma miniature, an Orpington miniature and Shetland crossbreeds (blue egg laying bantams). Daphne
I wouldn't rush to choose polands. They are smaller than pekins and can/do get picked on and can't always see to get out the way. I know it is poss to keep mixed flocks (mine is) but I really don't recommend it, particularly if you happen to choose a timid poland. craftyhunnypie
silkies? My pekins are in with my 2 old girls, a magpie & a black rock. I do however think that the mighty Spongebob (frizzle pekin) cockerel keeps them all in check & prevents any squabbling. I've got some others in with an Araucana girlie - she is a sweetie with them. I think the secret has been using introduction eglu's in the past & letting the others wander round them. Pekins can hold their own though - they are bossy little beauties in bloomers! karlotta
My pekin girls have just started to free range with my new Brahma and light sussex bantams and my poland - they seem to get on fine with only a little bit of chasing on the first couple of occasions. My Poland is the bravest of the new lot!
Woodcat
hey My pekins have started to free range with my hybrids (not originally through my choice, little escape artists) so i would say almost anything from the pekins point of view. I wouldn't go with seramas they would be alot smaller and my pekins at least are little madams and would probably bully them sensless other than that....
