Ain't Nobody Here
I sprayed with Johnson's Antimite Spray (remember that it is not licenced for poultry in UK and you should withdraw eggs for 3 days too) . Before bedtime I dunked the leg in a cutoff milk carton filled with surgical spirit then slathered vaseline all over the leg & foot. Then popped her into the eglu. (I reckoned the vaseline wouldn't end up covered with stuff that way!) A week later, the same treatment again. It seemed to work .

The Dogmother
You will need to treat all the chooks as it's easily picked up. The scales will have an exude or crust under them if they have the mites. After the mites have been killed, the scales will remian raised and manky looking until the hen moults them off; please don't be tempted to pick them off. Unfortunately, their legs never look pristine again.
keyhole kate
Thanks Claret Two definately have scales as you describe the very idea of picking I might try some Bio Oil once cleared to give them lovely legs again unless anyone thinks this is not a good idea
Ain't Nobody Here
Must admit I didn't do my other girls . Looks like I was lucky they didn't get it too .
The Dogmother
The oil might work, although the manky scales need to moult off under their own steam. Old chicken farmers used to use old diesel oil (totally toxic) to get rid of scaley leg mites, it works by smothering the mites and killing them, much as Vaseline would. The only thing with using oil is that all the garden muck sticks to it One of my girls is more prone to them than the others; I make sure that they are all dosed regularly with Ivermectin* as a preventative, then spray her legs with the Johnson's spray* *not licenced for use on poultry in the UK.
