i have 3 chickens 2 buff orpingtons and a maran, they are all simial ages (around 18 weeks) and from the same breeder.

 

we have only had the maran for a few days and she was healthy and bright when we got her but this morning she was very lethargic and wouldnt eat or drink just sat there.

 

later on in the day shes still sitting there (very shaky when stands up) and is drinking,and had a couple of grains of food.she looks healthy her eyes are bright, her comb is bright red and theres no mites.

 

so whats up??/ help!!please!!!

Can you describe her symptoms? Does she seem "puffed up", is she closing her eyes a lot?

The drinking is a good sign, but the shaking when standing is a little worrying.....

 

I would normally say it could be just "settling in" which is the reason why she's possibly quiet but if she is shaking there may possibly be something that requires veterinary treatment.

 

I would suggest keeping a close eye on her the next 24 hours, in the meantime you could always ring the breeder and ask if they noticed anything odd with her before she came to you.

shes just started eating which is good and shes started standing up then sitting again..

 

she doesnt have any signs of illness ie puffed up, her poos are normal. from researching i thinking/hopeing she could have a soft egg or be egg bond, is this possible??

Has she laid yet at all?

 

Sounds a bit young for a soft shelled egg, but could be possible... The hen is usually "hunched" and in a daze when a softie is coming.

 

Maybe she will be perkier tomorrow.

well shes very much in a daze but not hunched but she looks as if shes straining thats why i thought maybe a soft egg.?

i dont no what was up with her yestaday? but as long as shes alright now thats all that matters, fingers crossed

its not good news this morniing faith the chicken has gone backwards and now has the same sytompoms as the other day.

 

im stil not sure whats even up with her....
