Mine are getting earlier and earlier at the moment (last week or so) and it is pitch black inside their house in the morning. Can this warmer weather be affecting them?? Not entirely sure tho' I understand the entire time from ovulation to laying is about 25 hours. Then about 30 minutes later, the hen will begin to make another one. Christian Posted August 20, 2009 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Yes, it is 25 hours from ovulation to laying, but there are several eggs in the 'system' at any one time. So if they lay at 9am on Monday, it will be approximately 10am on Tuesday....etc No idea why they lay in the dark, but one of mine sometimes lays overnight Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Before I had hens, I had this idea that they would all lay early in the morning, but it's not unusual to find one of my girls in the nestbox at tea time It does cause problems when I've dismantled the coop to clean it!
