dippy bird
Just picked up our two new ladies today - a black rock and a red star.We have called the red star Aggie, but not sure what to call the black rock. Anyway, the guy told me just to put them with our other girls as they are old enough to look after themselves - well, I put little Maggie in with them and she didn't seem to mind Aggie, but attacked the Black Rock!! So I have taken her back out and just left her and Judy and Betty to free range in the garden - I have put corn round the run so at least it will get them to go near to the new girls in the hope that they will get used to them being around.I was thinking to let the other girls free range with them for a little while, or is that just asking for trouble? I can keep the all separated tonight as I have to coops now.Any ideas?
clootie
Great, congrats !! The other one has to be Kim surely?
Falkor
Congratulations on the new girls I would follow this guide on introductions. I have twice now and both sets of intros went smoothly with only the occasional shoulder barge from top chook viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25886 It took me 6-8 weeks before my lot were all living together full time but I would say if you have the spare housing it is well worth the time
dippy bird
looks good, I have moved the old run up against the new coop/run(all in one type jobby) so that they can all see each other but they are separated. I will put the older girls in their own coop tonight and then just keep doing the same thing for a few days and maybe let them free range together next week to see how they go...... still need a name for the black rock - we are using old lady types of names (no offence to anyone!!) it was just my daughters daft idea and we have stuck with it. So any ideas for a gorgeous black chicken with almost blue feathers? Maybe blue rinse!!

dippy bird
Turns out that my mum had an aunty Maud, so she is really happy with the choice. Both Maud and little Aggie are doing well.
