Egluntyne
You need straight Circlip pliers. Have a hunt round the forum as there are several recent threads about this and an article in the FAQ section.

Saronne
You can do it without clippers but you'll need two people. One to hold the hen, the other to fit the bumper bit. My son and I fit one this morning..on a hen, that is. Saronne x

xScrunchee
I do it by myself with the hen wrapped in a towel. Seems more scary than it really is and once it's done-throw some sweetcorn on the floor and within minutes the chicken forgets all about it Edited to say that I don't have circlip pliers

Person holding the hen must hold her head steady (with beak open) whilst other person quickly and confidently fits the bit. It's the 'quickly' and 'confidently' part that's the challenge! dipper
we did it ! we bought two types one was white and like a curtain hook that stayed on about 5 mins and then we had to go for the black one as per ebay and so far so good just hope it stays put - we put it in very hot water to start with so easier to open up
