Our Lavender Araucana, Lucy, has laid her first blue egg at last! I came back from school to find it in the nestbox - she had been acting going in and out of the nest box for a few days now.

 

The egg (right) next to Bella's usual cream egg:

 

It weighed 37g and is a much darker blue than we had expected.

 

Going to have it for dinner tonight

Lovely egg. Out of interest how many weeks is Lucy? I still have a long wait for my first ara egg as my Lily is only 17 weeks.

Well, according to our calendar, she is 24 weeks now, which to me seems too early to start laying as she's a pure breed. I thought that she would start laying when she was around 30 weeks... So, either she is older than we originally thought, crossed with something else or maybe she is 24 weeks and just wanted to start laying early

Wow, thats really blue!! I'm green (a very bluey green!) with envy! Our Araucanas lay quite a wishywashy blue. Where was yours from?

Thanks everyone. It was a very yummy egg She's been laying nearly every day now.

 

Chooksy - our Araucana was from a private breeder near us; she had a lovely big farm with loads of chickens. We originally went to her to see her Black Rocks and asked what else she had, and Lucy came home with us! Unfortunately she doesn't usually advertise, so I think we were lucky to get her!
