Rincewind
What do you do with a cockerel who launches at you feet first? Our guests are frightened to venture out in the garden when he is around. I have a peck and a scratch mark and have resorted to carrying a broom around with me! The Dogmother
Stick him in the pot! Seriously, there's not much you can do except wear full body armour.
Redwing
I read somewhere that when you are out in the garden carry him around with you everywhere so he sees you as superior to him and will respect you more Gotta be worth a try! xScrunchee
Yep-I have heard about the carrying him around with you too. And making sure that every time you go outside you pick him up, even if it's only for a couple of minutes. Might be worth googling aggressive cockerels and see what others suggest too. Patricia W
It's a normal cockerel defence move if he thinks you are a danger to his girls. So make sure you aren't inadvertently getting between him and his wives or otherwise appear threatening to them. Wear boots in the short term and take a water pistol with you to do some behaviour modification. I also press down on his back and make him crouch for me. It's very rare now for him to do that to me. What worries me more is that Phillipa tried this karate kick on one of the newbies when I had them out together for a supervised free range- aimed with both feet at the newbies head! Not ladylike at all! Tricia

Not ladylike at all! Tricia 2 of my girls try doing that to the new ones. Not nice at all. One of them is especially evil and will pin one of the new girls down pulling feathers from her back and constantly pecking at her head. The new one will try to put her head under her body and remains motionless-even when I have removed Jasmine-Tallulah takes quite a while to unfold herself. It has only happened a couple of times and I now walk around armed with a water pistol just in case she tries it again
Patricia W
Aren't they evil! I thought Phillipa was imitating Phillip but maybe it's not that. I also thought that if you had a cockerel he was supposed to keep order- not noticed it yet though with Phillip and the pecking order battle between the newbies and the 2 wives. But then I'm doing the introductions so slowly I may not have given it a chance. Tricia

Saying that-he has only just started putting the little girls in their place. (The last few days) When he gets up in the morning he gives them a chase around the garden-he feels better then and pecks about all contented. I hope that as his confidence grows-he will sort the nasty big girls out!!
