After 29 weeks we have our first egg - I should be eggstatic!!!

However Zena my lovely big black orphington is looking more and more like a male!!!!!

She is a third bigger than the others, crows sometimes in the morning, has tail feathers that are going upwards and I saw her mounting one of the others!!!!

It is quite a way to take her back to the place I got her, should I get her sexed at my vets??

Havent mastered getting my photos onto this site yet.

Have spent a large amount of time today (when I should have been working) studying black orphington photos on all the websites!!!!

None of them are conclusive.

I think dear old Buffy laid the egg as she doesnt come out of the Cube for about an hour after the others.

Cant stand not knowing so I think I will take Zena to my vets tomorrow where I presume they can sex her.

Depends if they are chook specialists and no doubt it will cost a lot. Can you not go back to where you bought her/him and get their view? Most places will swop wrongly sexed chicks. If s/he is crowing its pretty definitive......

Don't bank on the sexing. The vet sexed one of mine as a female but it was definitely male - half brahma, so the comb is not the typical huge cockerel comb that people think about.

Thanks for the advice have decided to save the vets fees and take Zena and Tickety, who I now realise is also probably a cockerel, back to where I brought them!!!

Will do it tomorrow but feel really bad as I hope they will resell them and not kill them!!
