I have wonderful solid oak floors downstairs, & I adore them in every way,except for the fact that a large rug I have in my living room is dangerously slippy

 

Its a huge rug, & is anchored in the middle by a lagre,heavy Indian dowry chest, but the edges skate around on the floor still, & are really quite dangerousto walk on.

 

We used to have a sort of under rug thing, which was tacky on both sides, & that worked well, except any little bit of grit stuck to it too, & it didn't last very long.

 

Anyone have any other suggestions on how I can secure thie rug to the floor (not by nails, as Hubby has suggested )

I bought some stuff from Ikea ages ago which works well (albeit on a very small rug in the bedroom). It's kind of thin rubbery mesh-like material which you cut to size.

I have got some rubbery mesh stuff from ebay - pretty cheap compared to the John Lewis stuff I had before,but I figure its worth a go!

I have rubbery mesh stuff and some stuff which is white and like tissue fabric both seem to work

Yes I got some from Homebase - bit like doubled sided but esp for mats

if the rug is there permanently then I'd use double sided carpet tape. I've got a rug on my laminate living room floor and I have stuck it down with the tape. It can come up in the areas you walk over most, like the corners after a while, but its easy to add more tape as needed.

I've got the Ikea stuff and I think it works well.

I wanted to avoid anything tapey or sticky,to save the floor from getting marked & also the sticky really picks up bits.

 

I am hoping that the grippy stuff will do the trick!
