Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

Got 3 hens and when we got them we were told 2 picked on 1, the 1 in question came to us with very red sore wings where she is pecked, we covered her in purple spray and it seemed to work. 2 months on the wounds still have not healed and have just caught the other 2 pecking her back, her back is now nearly bald. Have let her out and left the other 2 i n the eglu run much to their disgust. Just need some ideas as when she is in the run she seems quite nervous and ends up avoiding the other 2.

Put bumper bits on the bullies, then they can't hurt her.

Try Wernlas or the Domestic Fowl Trust, they have bumper bits. Cotswold Chickens has beak rings.

You'll need two people to fit them, but it's not hard.

I've always managed to fit them on my own.

Wrap hen in a towel and soak bumper bit in hot water for a few mins to soften it a little

I guess it would be easier-true.

I had no choice because daughter didn't want to hold the hen as she felt sad that she had to have one fitted and was worried she wouldn't hold her tight enough

OH wouldn't hold the hens because he's a wuss

I know all about wusses; I fitted 6 bumperbits to a friend's hens the other week, her OH was to scared to help out.

My OH denies being scared of them-he says he just doesn't want to touch them but when one run towards him-he walks backwards pretty damn quickly!!

Kev now has two bumper bits and the lovely smelly Net-ex Anti-peck spray. Hopefully the spray will do the job

 

BTW - It was great to meet you Kev and nice to know another chicken keeper is only a few minutes walk away
