hello, as you may have heard i have a new eglu.

 

The nest bit with the hole in it - what do I put here?

 

At the moment I put aubiose in it but of course its falling down the hole.

 

Do I cover it with newspaper like I used to in the cube?

When mine was on slabs I just let it fall through. Eventually it backs up and no more falls out .

 

Now it's on a table, I put a square of lino underneath and just tip it off that when I do a cleanout.

 

I did try putting the lino inside the nestbox but it was too stiff. Newspaper would just get scrabbled out, I suspect .

How about a bit of milk bottle plastic cut into a circle with a bolt in the middle to hang down into the hole to keep it steady.

 

I use a long strip about three inches wide with three bolts in my cube nest box. I love it cos I can just dump it in the bucket and wash it

 

I can even post you a couple of bolts if you like as when i said to FIL i wanted a couple he gave me a whole bag

I use a bit of cotton wool to plug the hole

I use rolled up newspaper and jam it in really tight. Mine has never come out, only when I take it out for cleaning.

I use a ball of scrunched up chicken wire from underneath. Also stops mice from trying to get in
