I was reading another forum the other day, when I saw this reply. "It's impossible for a chicken to lay more than one egg in 24 hours." Well yesterday Violet layed one egg at 7am. at 8pm I went and checked the nest box, Violet stood up and bingo another egg. 4 chickens and 5 eggs. I think the moderator on the other place was telling 'porkie pies'...... Vi the champion chook.

I think its said that they can only lay one egg a day because it takes 24 hours for an egg to be produced inside a chickens body i think. I dont know I do know that some peoples can lay for England

...or Ireland it would appear ....I wonder did she lay the day before and will she lay today too, maybe the early egg was "left over" from the previous day and the later one was yesterdays as normally timetabled...just a thought

 

I've had chooks produce an egg then a softie in the same day, but never two proper eggs.

I always check the nest box every morning, and every evening. That morning I collected 4 eggs, all standard size 65 to 75gms. The egg that I collected from under Vi at 8pm weighed 68gms..... I weighed it again this morning just to make sure.

Ok - 2 were softees - but were perectly formed other than that!

Cheyenne did 2 eggs in one day, so it is possible. She only did it the once mind, and both were fine.

Must be something about our water (we do get plenty) but we had 8 eggs from 6 chucks in a day. All were good eggs and they were all eaten (not all at once mind)

I've had two eggs in one day - I think it's usually when they are quite young and their systems are just getting into gear, but it's certainly possible. Not usual, though and I doubt if you'd get 4 eggs in two days!
