Lewis
I've just been to let Matilda + Theodore out to free range and Matilda was sitting on the nest. She came out and was as normal, but she has 'something' wrong with her back end. I thought prolapse? so had a look, and I think its a funny shaped softy. It is like the skin off your finger hanging out her vent, and it is empty. It's still attached to her vent. Am I best to leave her alone and see what happens or try and see what it is a bit more. I don't think it is a prolapse because the vent all looks intact, but have never seen one. Nothing has changed apart from getting the 2 new bantams, but they have been separated and not had any contact. They were wormed a month and a bit ago, so I might re-worm them as I'm currently doing the bantams. Has anyone had anything the same happen to your hens? Thanks
Lewis
It is quite long and now out Theres a bit of clear fluid in it - egg white? It was hanging out so I had another look and it came out really easily. I hope it is a softy + I will give her some limestone flour to see if it improves things. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm glad you managed to get it out, Lewis. Fingers crossed it was just a softie .
The Dogmother
Sounds like she had a softy on the way, it leaked and the membrane came out afterwards - she will feel better now that you have removed the membrane. Try mixing limestone flour in with the pellets, but first coat the pellets with a tiny drizzle of cod liver oil.
Egluntyne
Sounds like a softie to me too.
Lewis
She seems fine today, but I'll keep a close eye on her
Lewis
It looks like it was a softie. We had a broken softie on Wednesday and nothing since from either of them - Nugget has started laying so at least we have a few tiny eggs They've had limestone flour so hopefully the softies will stop, but we've yet to see
