Old Speckled Hen

Half Marathons & Marathons

Recommended Posts

This has been split from Sparkysmum's topic about the Great North Run :) . ANH

Thank you, thank you everyone :!::!: Chucky mama & old speckled hen - go for it  A marathon is waaaay beyond me. Would love to have a go but I know my limitations

It may not be, sparky:wink:

I've never run the GNR (brown chicken????) Great North Run but hubby has and he says the atmosphere is great. I was really envious of you. You had such a wonderful day too. Well done again :clap:

That's the thing that got me round London.

BUT one tip for anybody not really fit trying a marathon. DON'T put your name on your Tshirt.

It's great for the first few miles but when you're knackered people shouting, " come on Dani" (or whatever) gets REALLY annoying and I can tell you I nearly stopped and punched the wit that shouted out, "Only another three miles to go Dani!":lol::lol:

A big well done :clap: I have put my name down for the London Marathon again and have my fingers crossed that I don't get in again  What was I thinking

Four years ago I entered the ballot knowing that first timers wouldn't get in and guess what :(

I got in.

I made such a hash of the run so resolved to try again.

Do you know that entry was all online for next year and three days after opening the entries were closed :!:

I have an entry for Brighton the week before London so if you don't get in CM how about running that with hubby and me? Well just me really as hubby would leave me standing

Oh wow, now you have got me thinking! How far is the Brighton one? I am sweating at the thought of it but also strangely excited at the prospect. Tell me more!

How far is the Brighton Marathon?

Ummmm let me see

Would it be 26 and a teeny bit miles?:lol::lol:

OH come join me.

How about an Omlet marathon?

We could run for BHWT.

:lol::lol::lol: I was in shock, cut me some slack :lol::lol:

Ok, your on! If I don't make the London I will do the Brighton with you. I need to wait until October to see if I get into London but if not I will do it with you. You had better not be some sort of elite athlete though. I was a sprinter in my day but am truly awful at long distance. I am pretty slow and it will be a major challenge. If you can cope with that then I am all for it.

(sorry Sparkeysmum for hijacking your post...it is all your fault though  now look what you've done!)

I did London in 5.25 four years ago.I'm aiming for five hours.

Brighton will fill up as soon as London ballot is declared.

Vicki,
OK

Half marathon in Edinburgh

Marathon in Brighton :D :D :D

So now there are three :!::!: Fantastic. Have had a look at the course' date=' overall it's downhill :!: Might be achievable but it will mean training over winter. What do you think :?:[/quote']

They are on the same day and I have a place on Brighton already.

Perhaps some clever mod can put this on a separate thread then we'll have till Christmas to organize all this and from Christmas to train. :D

I'd love to put everyone up here but we don't really have the room :( . I don't even know if I'll have a car that day (we only have one and YS plays football on Sundays which OH will need the car for  ).

We could probably sort something out though (even if it's camp beds in the living room!)

Hubby and I are doing a 10K run in the Langdale Valley on Sunday Dec 13th.

Entry form here

It's a road event, hilly but not crippling  and it's always great fun.

Good pub at the end of the course.

If anybody fancies including this in their training I can put people up here :D
