Ygerna
Ok, so I am feeling really pants! Aches, pains, temperature, blocked nose, sore throat and so on. Feeling a bit sorry for myself really so ignore the heaps of self pity I did the questionaire on the NHS swine flu website and I've been given an authorisation code for antivirals. My concern is that the questions were so bland, and swine flu is so similar to flu, or a severe cold that I am not convinced its accurate enough to be able to say 'yep, you need some meds, here you go'. If you were me, would you get them? or wait it out? (bearing in mind that 'me' has three young children to try and look after and protect from it). Space Chick
We don't get the anti-virals in Wales, consequently following complications of having swine flu 8 weeks ago, I am still off work. I would say take them, but thats my personal opinion and without any medical knowledge/background.
PurpleTree
Well you do seem to have all the symptoms, but like you say you can get those symptoms with loads of other things. I think the drugs only really help if you take them as soon as your symptoms start, and then I think they only shorten the illness by a day or so. I probably wouldn't take the antivirals, just lots of honey and lemon and paracetamols. Try and get some rest
Cinnamon
I had a 'thing' for a couple of weeks - no way of knowing if it was swine Flu or not,but I was pretty unwell. I decided to stick it out without the antivirals, & just do the bed rest & paracetamol cure.
craftyhunnypie
I've got something at the minute - hence the reason I'm online more today. It's more cold like than flu & I had a runny nose yesterday - which I don't think you get with Swine Flu. No medicines here - just lots of hot drinks & Something similar to Vicks rubbed on the chest! I don't do medicines! My sister has the same - so we think we picked it up from Trentham Gardens on Thursday, when we were both together. BeckyBoo
I think the thing is, from what I've read and heard, it only shortens the symptoms by about a day. So personally I'd rather try and get a bit of extra childcare, send someone out for paracetmol, and all the other stuff and just try to rest. It won't stop your children from catching it, some people just seem to be able to resist it anyway. (I have to say I'm very sceptical of "new" medicine that appears very quickly on the market) Really hope you're feeling better soon, it can be so hard when you have small children, they don't cut you any slack at all. Touch wood I've never had ANY real proper flu, only what we normally call flu which is just a virus I guess, the real thing sounds just awful Lots of love, get well soon BeckyBoo
Griffin
Having seen the side effects in Georgia, my three year old, I wouldn't take Tamiflu or let any of my other kids take it. It made her very restless and she was hallaucinating at night. She was much better off with just Calpol & Neurofen.
Ygerna
Thanks everyone. I've got the AV's. Feeling horrible today, however, the childminder has agreed to have Howard today, whose only been there one morning a couple of weeks ago , and when Arthur gets out of preschool and Emily from big school DH is taking them there too. I have no idea what we would do if he didnt work only 10 minutes away.
