Chckens have arrived but I am a little worried

Recommended Posts

I went to collect my girls today as planned, I wanted a speckeldy and they were 3 weeks younger than the other three hens. the kind seller picked me a large one in the hope that the others would not pick on it but now they are home they have started to peck her. They are chasing her away and she has now perched on top of the Glug. Mainly she is being chased by two of the other three, the largest one and a smaller one.

As they were all new at the same time, I hoped they would get on as there is very little difference in size. Not sure what will happen at bedtime, they have not damaged any of her feathers yet and if necessary, I will take her back but I am worried that they will now peck anything else I bring in to replace her. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks Tina

I have two younger Rhode Island Reds amongst my group and when we first got them (all at the same time) the others picked on them to start with, but after a few days it stopped.

It's just the pecking order being sorted out I would have thought.

I am with Egluntyne, I would persevere and it should settle down.

I will persevere as long as they others don't draw blood! I will try the vinegar solution this evening, I hope they will let her into the cube. I know she has eaten because she worked out first how to use the grog and I have given them all a little corn. I have not seen her drink but she is perched on top of the Glus so she can see the water.

I have given them some greens suspended from a spike but I dont think they have touched it yet.

Hope they are not too unkind Tina
